Zakynthos So Far – Beaches, Pool Time & Teenage Girls!

We are now at the start of day 4 here in beautiful Zakynthos, so I thought I’d share what we’ve been up to so far on our latest family adventure.

One thing this trip has really highlighted is just how different holidays are when travelling with two teenage girls compared to just Craig and I — and even compared to taking my boys, who are 11 and 14.

The pace, the priorities and definitely the amount of time getting ready are all very different!

As you’ve probably gathered from reading my blogs, I am an early riser. Holidays are no exception. I’m still up pretty much at crack of dawn and honestly, it’s my favourite productive time of day. While everyone else sleeps, I’ve been writing, reading, heading off for morning walks and enjoying peaceful swims in the pool completely to myself. Add a coffee on the patio overlooking the surroundings of this amazing villa and it’s my idea of heaven.

So far we’ve explored several beaches across the island, from local favourites Alykes and Alykanas right down to Banana Beach, stopping at Tsilivi en route. Multiple daily dips in the ocean are absolutely essential for me on holiday.

A definite must-stop at Banana Beach is Banana Baya. The whole atmosphere and vibe there is gorgeous, a mix of traditional wood styling with a blend of tiki and Moroccan influences.

Tiered wooden levels lead down towards the broadwalked beach area, with sun cushions scattered across grassy mounds alongside laid-back benches and tables for those wanting to fully relax and soak up the scenery.

We only stopped for a drink before heading into the sea, but of course we had to have a go on the swings. Yes, I know they’re technically for kids… but it had to be done!

Kenzi ordered a huge club sandwich which honestly looked incredible, especially for someone who doesn’t usually eat wheat. Although she did need some help from Craig to finish it off! I stuck with one of my favourites — a Greek coffee. Ethala enan caffee sketo.

Tsilivi is definitely worth visiting if you’re after somewhere a little busier with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to wander around.

The same goes for Argassi. We didn’t spend too much time exploring as we were focused on beach hopping, but we did finish our visit to Tsilivi with a drink at Venus Beach Bar, which had a lovely beachfront setting. Perfect for sitting with an ice-cold rosé or a Mythos watching the water sports and the world drift by.

Yesterday we headed down to Keri Lighthouse and the caves as the weather was a little overcast and threatening rain. Unfortunately the lighthouse itself is currently closed, but we still walked up to the incredible viewpoint overlooking Mizithres, and the views were absolutely stunning.

Afterwards we stopped by Keri Lake and Limni Keri before the girls decided they wanted to check out Laganas.

I have to admit, it’s not really my cup of tea having visited years ago… but teenagers are teenagers!

We parked near the entrance to Cameo Island and of course paid the €5 each to go across, which includes a keyring and photo. Sitting at the bar overlooking Turtle Island, Craig surprised me with a frozen mojito. After a slight brain freeze moment, it was thoroughly enjoyed.

Next came a walk through the sea along the shoreline into Laganas itself, mainly because Craig had zero interest in driving through the busy strip!

Meanwhile I was constantly scanning the water in the hope of spotting turtles or marine life, but sadly no luck this time.

Luckily for me, the girls didn’t want to stay too long and after walking most of the strip they felt they’d seen enough and we headed back.

Every day so far has both started and ended with pool time and honestly, it’s been the perfect balance of exploring and relaxing.

Now at the start of day 4, we still have plenty left to see and do over our final couple of days here. Today’s plan involves a boat trip, so stay tuned for the next blog because I’m hoping for caves, crystal-clear water and maybe finally spotting those famous turtles!
