A Hidden Gem in Zakynthos – Our Stay at Villa Mazetto Casa Alonia

As we’re just finishing up our short four-night stay at Villa Mazetto Casa Alonia, I genuinely felt this beautiful villa deserved a feature here on Eat Clean, Health and Dream.

If you’re currently searching for accommodation in Zakynthos and want somewhere peaceful, stylish, spacious and perfectly equipped for families, couples or friends travelling together, this is absolutely one to check out.

We had been looking for a two-bedroom apartment for a short break with Craig’s two teenage girls and after browsing both Expedia and Airbnb, this property immediately stood out. It ticked every box we were looking for — and then came with several added bonuses including a private pool, proper kitchen and washing machine, which always makes travelling easier, especially with teenagers in tow.

I ended up booking through Expedia and from the start the experience was seamless. George, the owner, messaged a few days before arrival to introduce himself and check timings before personally meeting us at the villa to ensure everything was perfect on arrival.

First Impressions

Driving up the private gated entrance, tucked away amongst surrounding orchards, the setting instantly gives you that peaceful “hidden retreat” feeling. The very first thing you notice is the huge covered outdoor kitchen and dining area — which actually also houses a little annex complete with another kitchen, washing machine, shower room and sofa/day bed. Ideal for larger groups or extended family travelling together.

The outdoor space here is exceptional. There’s plenty of parking, loads of seating areas, sun loungers and enough room that everyone can enjoy their own space if needed.

Whether you’re travelling as a family, with friends or as a couple wanting privacy and quiet, the layout works brilliantly.

The Villa Itself

Walking into the villa genuinely exceeded expectations. The interiors are stunning — beautifully decorated, thoughtfully styled and incredibly welcoming. The open-plan layout works perfectly, with a lounge area and sofa bed to the left and the kitchen diner to the right.

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything needed whether you plan to self-cater completely or do a mix of eating in and dining out.

Small touches really made the difference too — a bottle of local rosé wine waiting for us on arrival along with water and fruit juice was such a lovely gesture after travelling and an early start.

The villa has two bedrooms along with a spacious family shower room, and every detail feels carefully considered.

Stylish yet comfortable and exactly the kind of place you look forward to returning to after a day exploring Zakynthos.

The Pool & Outdoor Living

The pool was definitely the standout feature for me personally and was very well used throughout our stay.

There’s something incredibly special about having your own private pool and I fully embraced it.

Starting mornings with an early swim before everyone else woke up and ending the evenings the same way.

It’s one of those simple luxuries you quickly become attached to and I already know I’ll miss it when we return to the UK later today.

One area we sadly didn’t use nearly enough, simply because our stay just wasn’t long enough - was the outdoor covered seating and BBQ area. If we’d stayed longer, it would absolutely have become the centre of our evenings. I already have plans for next time involving trips to local supermarkets and butchers for fresh Greek produce and relaxed evenings cooking outdoors.

Genuine Hospitality

What truly elevates a stay somewhere is the people, and George and his mum were absolutely wonderful hosts.

After rain on our first evening, they came by to clean and freshen all the outdoor chair cushions as well as maintain the pool.

They also arrived with fresh eggs from home, which quickly became the perfect excuse for feta and olive omelettes and scrambled eggs in the mornings — very much bringing out the nutritionist side of me after my early walks and swims.

Combined with freshly brewed coffee from the provided coffee machine, it really was the perfect start to each day.

Perfectly Positioned

The villa feels beautifully secluded and peaceful while still being close enough to beaches, tavernas and local villages.

When chatting with George about restaurant recommendations, he suggested a taverna in Alykes and when we wandered past later that day, I recognised it instantly — somewhere I’d actually visited on previous trips to Zakynthos around 12–15 years ago.

Funny how travel memories come full circle sometimes.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for accommodation in Zakynthos that offers privacy, space, stunning interiors and all the comforts needed for either a short break or longer holiday, Villa Mazetto Casa Alonia is genuinely somewhere I’d highly recommend.

It’s ideal for couples, families, groups of friends or anyone wanting to enjoy the island away from the hustle and bustle while still being close enough to beaches and local life.

I’ve included a few photos from our stay, although honestly they still don’t fully do this place justice.

We’ll definitely be returning.
