A Simple Travel Exercise That Says a Lot About What You Value
For anyone who knows me well, travel isn’t just something I enjoy doing—it’s something that truly drives me.
Adventure, exploring new landscapes, experiencing different cultures, and stepping outside of the everyday routine has always been a huge part of how I feel alive and inspired. Having the freedom to travel is one of my core values in life.
So every now and then I like to do what I call one of my “little exercises”—simple questions that spark conversation, reflection, and a bit of dreaming.
One of my favourites?
If you had to write down your top five countries or places you want to visit in your lifetime, where would you go?
It’s a fun question, but it can actually reveal quite a lot about what excites you, what inspires you, and the kind of experiences you want to have in life.
It’s also something I’ve asked Craig to do before as well.
Why We Do This Little Exercise
A while ago I asked Craig to sit down and think about his own top travel destinations.
Not because we were booking anything immediately, but because I wanted us to align on the adventures we both dream about.
Life moves quickly. Work, family, responsibilities and everyday routines can easily take over. Before you know it, years pass without intentionally planning the experiences that matter most.
This exercise helps us make sure that over the years we’re ticking off destinations that excite both of us, creating memories, and continuing to explore the world together.
It’s simple, but it’s surprisingly powerful.
And it’s always interesting to see how different our lists can be.
My Top Five Travel Dreams
Narrowing it down to five isn’t easy—especially if you’re someone who loves adventure travel—but these are the destinations that always rise to the top of my list.
Pacific Islands
I know technically this covers quite a few places, but the Pacific Islands have always had a pull for me.
Crystal-clear water, tropical landscapes, slower island rhythms and that incredible connection to the ocean. For someone who finds so much calm and energy from being near water, it feels like the ultimate reset.
Whether it’s Fiji, Tahiti, or somewhere more remote, the Pacific islands represent pure escapism and natural beauty.
Tasmania
Tasmania has long been on my list.
Wild landscapes, rugged coastlines, incredible hiking trails and untouched nature—it feels like one of those places where adventure and solitude go hand in hand.
There’s something very appealing about exploring somewhere that still feels raw, remote and beautifully wild.
Alaska
Alaska feels like the definition of big, untamed adventure.
Glaciers, mountains, wildlife and vast open landscapes. It’s the kind of destination that reminds you how small we are in the grand scheme of nature.
From kayaking past icebergs to seeing bears in the wild, Alaska feels like one of those once-in-a-lifetime adventure destinations.
Norway
Norway has fascinated me for years.
The dramatic fjords, the mountains, the deep blue water cutting through the landscape—it’s one of those places that looks almost unreal in photos.
And then there’s the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights, which has always felt like one of those magical experiences worth travelling across the world for.
The Southern States of America
I’ve already been to Florida, but there’s a whole stretch of the southern United States I would love to explore properly.
The idea of a classic road trip—driving through the southern states and eventually arriving in New Orleans—sounds like an incredible adventure.
Music, food, culture, history and that famous southern hospitality. It feels like a journey filled with character and stories waiting to happen.
Travel Isn’t Just About the Destination
One of the things I love most about doing this exercise is that it reminds you of something important.
Travel isn’t just about ticking places off a list.
It’s about:
The experiences you have
The people you meet
The landscapes that stay with you
The memories you create with the people you love
For me, travel has always been about adventure, connection, and perspective.
It gives you space to breathe, to reset, and to see the world—and yourself—from a slightly different angle.
Your Turn: Where Would You Go?
So here’s a little exercise for you.
Take a moment and ask yourself:
If you had to choose your top five countries or destinations to visit in your lifetime, where would they be?
Better yet, ask your partner, friends, or family to do the same.
You might be surprised by the answers.
And who knows—maybe those conversations will be the start of planning your next great adventure.
Because sometimes the best journeys begin with a simple question and a little bit of dreaming. 🌍✈️
